Our Origin
Why BGC Exists

No one should suffer through a ruined Bali holiday alone.

BGC was founded by Dr. Dewa Gde Oka and Dr. Ayu Pratiwi — two Indonesian doctors who spent years watching international visitors navigate Bali's healthcare system in the worst possible circumstances: disoriented, dehydrated, and far from home.

The pattern was consistent. A tourist would get Bali belly on Day 2 of a 7-day holiday. They'd spend the morning vomiting, feel too sick to reach a hospital, and lose another full day waiting for the illness to pass on its own. By the time they finally called a doctor, they were severely dehydrated and their holiday was effectively over.

"The treatment itself was straightforward — 45 minutes of IV fluid and the right antiemetic. The problem was getting clinical-grade care to the person in time, where they were. So we built a system that does exactly that."
— Dr. Dewa Gde Oka, Co-founder

BGC launched as a formal clinical practice licensed under TMC Clinic Bali, bringing hospital-standard IV therapy, licensed physicians, and proper medical documentation directly to villas, hotels, and guesthouses across the island.

What makes BGC different
Licensed doctors only — every treatment supervised by a physician with active STR & SIP, not a nurse or wellness practitioner
Evidence-based protocols — WHO dehydration grading, PAPDI guidelines, full antiemetic & antibiotic formulary
Pay after treatment — no upfront payment, no risk to the patient when they are at their most vulnerable
Medical records issued — ICD-10 coded, on TMC Clinic letterhead, valid for travel insurance claims
Hospital escalation pathway — direct relationship with local hospitals if severity requires inpatient care
"No one should have to choose between suffering through a ruined Bali holiday and navigating a foreign healthcare system alone while feeling terrible. BGC exists to close that gap — with licensed doctors, real medication, and the dignity of being cared for where you are."

What We Stand For
Our Clinical Values
Six principles that govern every decision BGC makes — from protocol design to how we respond to a WhatsApp at 11pm.
🩺
01
Physician-Led Always
Every BGC treatment is supervised by a licensed physician with active STR & SIP. We will never send a nurse without a doctor in the loop. Medical decisions are made by doctors, not protocols alone.
🔬
02
Evidence-Based Practice
BGC protocols follow WHO dehydration grading, PAPDI clinical guidelines, and current tropical medicine evidence. We prescribe what works — not what sells. Our formulary is reviewed quarterly.
🤝
03
Pay After Treatment
You pay only after the treatment is complete and you are satisfied. We believe no one in medical distress should face a financial barrier to clinical care. Zero upfront. Zero pressure.
📋
04
Full Documentation
Every BGC treatment generates a formal medical record: ICD-10 coded, drug administration logged, vitals tracked, and issued on TMC Clinic Bali letterhead — valid for travel insurance and GP follow-up.
🚨
05
Transparent Escalation
When a case requires hospital-level care, we say so immediately and help arrange transfer. BGC will never keep a patient in home treatment if hospital is clinically indicated. Honesty over revenue — always.
🌏
06
Cultural Competency
BGC doctors communicate fluently in English, Indonesian, and Balinese. We understand the specific anxieties of international patients in an unfamiliar medical system — and we design every interaction around that reality.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked
Everything you need to know before booking — answered by the BGC clinical team.
Are BGC doctors genuinely licensed?
Yes. Both Dr. Dewa and Dr. Ayu hold active Surat Tanda Registrasi (STR) and Surat Izin Praktik (SIP) — mandatory Indonesian physician licences under UU No. 29/2004. BGC operates formally under TMC Clinic Bali. All nurses hold equivalent STRP and SIPP licences. These credentials are publicly verifiable through the Indonesian Medical Council (Konsil Kedokteran Indonesia).
Why is it "pay after treatment"?
We believe no one in medical distress should face a financial barrier to care. When someone is severely dehydrated and vomiting, demanding upfront payment is the wrong signal. You experience the treatment, recover, and pay when it's done. This policy also means BGC is accountable for outcomes — if we don't help, the conversation about payment is very different. We accept cash (IDR) after each treatment.
Can BGC provide documentation for travel insurance?
Yes. Every BGC treatment generates a formal medical record on TMC Clinic Bali letterhead — ICD-10 coded, with full drug administration log, vital signs, diagnosis, and physician signature. This document is accepted by international travel insurers for reimbursement claims. We recommend requesting the full report if you plan to claim — we issue it at no additional cost.
When would you recommend going to hospital instead?
BGC will always escalate to hospital when: (1) severe dehydration is not responding after 1 hour of IV therapy, (2) there are signs of systemic sepsis, (3) blood glucose is critically abnormal, (4) the patient is a child under 5 or elderly with comorbidities, (5) there is significant rectal bleeding, or (6) signs of appendicitis, bowel obstruction, or other surgical emergency. Our doctor will make this assessment on arrival and guide the transfer if needed. We maintain relationships with local hospitals for warm handover.
What if I need treatment at night or early morning?
BGC operates 08:00–22:00 daily. For urgent cases before 08:00 or after 22:00, WhatsApp us and we will assess whether an out-of-hours treatment is possible. For genuine medical emergencies outside our operating hours, we recommend calling a hospital directly: BIMC Kuta (+62 361 761 263) or Siloam Denpasar (+62 361 779 900).
Do you treat children and pregnant patients?
Yes, with additional care. BGC can treat children aged 12 and above and pregnant patients, but these cases require direct physician assessment before treatment. Please WhatsApp us directly rather than using the standard triage tool — we will ask about the specific situation before dispatching. Children under 12 are better assessed at a paediatric facility in most cases, and we will advise accordingly.
